Avec les effrontés Maman Küsters, Brest tient là une pépite aussi rare que brillante. On y croise autant d’audace que de bidouillages, d’angoisses que de troubles pensées. On touche du doigt la musique électronique avec ses affres et ses tensions, le rock, le vrai, avec ses nerfs à fleur de peau. Ce mystérieux duo breton célèbre l’aventure, l’accident et le polar noir. Un album hanté, porté par le talent d’une douce folie dadaïste, par l’ivresse textuelle d’un Gainsbourg ou d’un Bashung. Des textes automatiques et fatalistes déposés sur des rythmiques électroniques shootées au plutonium qui rappellent les coups de butoir d'un Chrislo Haas, l'homme-machine derrière les groupes pionniers Liaisons Dangereuses et DAF. Maman Küsters se place d'ores et déjà comme l’unique représentant du genre.

In the bare-faced cheek of Maman Küsters, Brest has its hands on a real gem of rare brilliance. There are equal measures of sheer nerve, of fiddling about, of agony and of tortured thoughts. We really get a sense of tormented, wound up electronic music and rock – real rock, raw and on edge. This mysterious Breton duo celebrates the adventurous, the accidental, and the dark thriller. The album is haunted by a talented Dadaistic madness and by the boozy words of a Gainsbourg or a Bashung. These fatalistic, automatic lyrics, carried along by an electronic beat that seems high on plutonium, bring to mind the pounding of a Chrislo Haas, the man-machine behind pioneering bands Liaisons Dangereuses and DAF. From now on Maman Küsters is firmly in position as the one and only example of this genre.
